Mary (Burnett) Walpole
According to her obituary, Mary Burnett was born on 8 May 1813 in Bungay, Suffolk, England.1 She was the daughter of William Burnett and Rachel Durrant. Her date of birth would be 17 May 1813 as calculated from the death entry in a bible record: "Dec. 31, 1886 Age 73 yrs. 7 mo. 14 da."2

Mary Burnett arrived in New York, New York, on 30 August 1834 on the ship Saint John from Liverpool together with her father and five siblings.3

Mary Burnett married first William B. Rushmer on 1 November 1837 in New York, New York; they were married by the Rev. Henry Chase.4,5 Mary Burnett married secondly William Walpole on 1 January 1847 in Scotch Plains, New Jersey; the minister was the Rev. William Lock.2,4,5

Mary Burnett appeared on the census of 1 August 1850 at Westfield Township, Essex County, New Jersey, in the household of her husband.6

Mary Burnett appeared on the census of 11 June 1880 at Mount Pleasant Township, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband.7

Mary Burnett died on 31 December 1886 in Katonah, New York, at age 73, of a severe asthma attack.5,2,8,1 The funeral was on 3 January 1887 at the Katonah Presbyterian Church, Katonah, Westchester County, New York. She was buried in plot 222, Katonah Cemetery, Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.1,9 The bodies in this cemetery were removed for the filling of the Croton Aqueduct reservoir.10 She was reburied on 29 November 1906 in lot 1350 (Walpole plot), Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.11,8,12
