Rachel (Walpole) Troup
Rachel Amelia Walpole was born on 29 May 1857.1 She was the daughter of William Walpole and Mary Burnett.

Rachel Amelia Walpole married Charles Robert Troup, son of Robert Troup and Jane Robertson, on 29 April 1876 in Unionville (now Hawthorne), Westchester County, New York.2,1

Rachel Amelia Walpole appears in a family photograph taken about 1885. When Charles Robert Troup died, Mrs. John F. Pirie gave Rachel Troup a pension for the rest of her life.3

Rachel Amelia Walpole and her daughters resided in May 1898 in White Plains, Westchester County, New York.4 They were guests at the wedding of Harry Zalmon Mayne and Mary Harriette Cargon on 31 May 1898 in Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.4

Rachel Amelia Walpole appeared on the census of 22 April 1910 at 24 Bank Street, White Plains, Westchester County, New York.5

Rachel Amelia Walpole appears in a photograph of a fourth-of-July picnic at the Anderson estate on Post Road in White Plains, probably taken around 1918.6

Rachel Amelia Walpole appeared on the census of 19 January 1920 at 53 Rathbun Avenue, White Plains, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her son-in-law, Frank Q. DeVoe.7

Rachel Amelia Walpole appeared on the census of June 1925 at 23 Bank Street, White Plains, Westchester County, New York, together with her daughter Rachel and her niece Lillian Adams.8

The Bank Street apartment house was the DeVoe residence before the family moved to Davis Avenue.9 Frank and Eva (Troup) DeVoe lived on one side and Rachel (Walpole) Troup on the other; they were there when Frank Kenneth DeVoe was in college.10 Frank Kenneth DeVoe recalled that Rachel Troup rented the third floor.6 A letter received by Frank Kenneth DeVoe in 1929 was addressed to 86 Bank Street, White Plains, New York, so either the family had moved from one Bank Street address to another or the street was renumbered.11 In a letter written to Howard DeVoe in January 1989, Gladys (Troup) Stickler wrote "I knew your Dad well from my frequent visits to Grandma Troup when she lived on Bank St in White Plains. . . .I was very fond of my Grandmother and wonder now why I didn't ask more questions about her Husband and etc. Guess I was just too young."12

Rachel Amelia Walpole appeared on the census of 2 April 1930 at 135 South Lexington Avenue, White Plains, Westchester County, New York, where she is recorded as head of household with daughter Rachael and niece Lilian [sic] Adams; the home was shown as rented, monthly rent 60.13 She lived in November 1935 in White Plains, Westchester County, New York.14

Rachel Amelia Walpole appears in a family photo taken 5 July 1936 at Harry and Mary Mayne's beach house in Morningside, Milford, Connecticut.

Rachel Amelia Walpole died in 1937. She was buried on 23 June 1937 in lot 1350 (Walpole plot), Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.15,16,17
