Harriett Ann Walpole

Harriett Ann Walpole was also known as "Hattie." She was also known as "Hariett A." She was born on 16 March 1852.1,2 She was the daughter of William Walpole and Mary Burnett. Harriett Ann Walpole was born in New Jersey according to the 1900 and 1930 censuses.3,4 Her obituary in the Katonah Record, however, stated she was born in Katonah.2

Harriett Ann Walpole married William H. Cargon on 21 September 1871 at Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.5,6

Harriett Ann Walpole appeared on the census of 2 June 1880 at Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York, where she is recorded as keeping house in the household of her husband.7 She and William H. Cargon resided in May 1898 on Cherry Street, Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.8 Harriett (Walpole) Cargon appears in a photograph together with William Walpole, William Cargon, William Cargon Jr., and Harry Mayne.

Harriett Ann Walpole appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 at Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband.3

Harriett Ann Walpole appeared on the census of 1 June 1905 at Katonah, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband.9 This was presumably the house at the corner of Valley Road and Edgemont Road in which the Cargons lived for the rest of their lives.

Harriett Ann Walpole appeared on the census of 20 April 1910 at Edgemont Road, Katonah, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband.10

Harriett Ann Walpole probably appears in a group photograph of unknown date, possibly taken about 1915.

Harriett Ann Walpole died on 24 November 1935 in Valley Road, Katonah, Westchester County, New York, at age 83.5,2 She was buried on 26 November 1935 in lot 1350 (Walpole plot), Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.13,14,15
