Streptomyces grown on Starch Casein Plates.
candidate H Rough, opaque, circular colonies that turned blue when sporulation occurred. Emitted an odor that was very characteristic of soil.
Positive Result
Motility Stab
Single stab line apparent through the length of the agar in tube.
Gram Stain
Long filamentous strands can be seen as they branch out from a mass of Streptomyces cells. The cells stained purple which reveals and also confirms that our organism is gram positive. Streptomyces are characteristically gram positive.
Negative /Positive Result
MacConkey's Plates
Growth was not seen on MacConkey's Plates. Confirmed the Gram Stain result. MacConkey's agar prohibits the growth of gram positive organisms.
Sugar Fermentation Tubes
sugar fermentation tubes Color change in second tube without oil indicates oxidative metabolism which is characteristic for aerobes. Color change in third tube with oil indicates fermentative metabolism. Color change in both tubes suggest a facultative anaerobe.
Positive Result
Catalase Test
Bubbles formed on addition of the cells to hydrogen peroxide.
