TARGETING SIMPLE SENTENCES FOR REVISION:

The 3 points below are far from exhaustive, but the two points in #1 cover a large percentage of SSS cases.  #2 and #3 are good examples of cases where you can connect ideas for readers rather than presenting those ideas in separate sentences.

1. When you are revising, watch for those places where you have two (or more) sentences that:
   - begin with the same subject, or
   - are only about one typed line in length.

2. Sentences with Dummy THERE can frequently be combined with the following sentence.

3. A sentence that provides a definition for a word or idea in the previous sentence should be combined with that sentence.
