William H. Cargon was born on 20 September 1849 in Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.1
William H. Cargon married Harriett Ann Walpole, daughter of William Walpole and Mary Burnett, on 21 September 1871 at Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York; they were married by the Rev. Wm. Chipp.2,1 On 15 October 1874 he joined the Whitlockville Church, which afterwards became the Katonah Methodist Episcopal Church.1
William H. Cargon appeared on the census of 2 June 1880 at Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York, where he is recorded as a laborer.3 He and Harriett Ann Walpole resided in May 1898 on Cherry Street, Old Katonah, Westchester County, New York.4

William H. Cargon appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 at Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York, where he was recorded as renting his house.5 He was a gardener according to the June 1900 census.5
In 1904 William and Harriet Cargon moved into rooms in Harry Mayne's house on the hill in Katonah.6,7
William H. Cargon appeared on the census of 1 June 1905 at Katonah, Westchester County, New York, where his occupation was given as "Helper in Lumberyard."8
An item in a Katonah newspaper, 20 October 1905, states "Mr. William H. Cargon has purchased a large lot on Valley Road of Mr. Joseph Barrett and will put up a residence in the near future."9 This was presumably the house at the corner of Valley Road and Edgemont Road in which the Cargons lived for the rest of their lives.
Beginning in 1909 or earlier, and continuing through 1917 or later, William H. Cargon was the janitor and truant officer at the Katonah School.10,11
William H. Cargon appeared on the census of 20 April 1910 at Edgemont Road, Katonah, Westchester County, New York, where his home was described as owned and mortgage free.12 He was a janitor at a school building according to the April 1910 census.12

William H. Cargon died on 30 July 1931 in Valley Road, Katonah, Westchester County, New York, at age 81.2,16,1 The funeral was on 2 August 1931 at the Methodist Church, Katonah, Westchester County, New York.1 He was buried on 2 August 1931 in lot 1350 (Walpole plot), Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.17,18,19
