Arthur DeVoe's name appeared in family bibles as "Auther Goveniure"1 and "Arthur Govenier"2. Arthur Governor DeVoe was born on 31 March 1877 in Monticello, Sullivan County, New York.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Isaac DeVoe and Cordelia A. Oakley.5
Arthur Governor DeVoe appeared on the census of 21 June 1880 at North Tarrytown, Mount Pleasant Township, Westchester County, New York, in the household of his father.6
Arthur Governor DeVoe married May MacLauchlan on 21 August 1904.1 Frank Kenneth DeVoe recalled that he drove a bakery truck for Cushman's Bakery, with a route in Scarsdale, New York, and that he was a very quiet man.7
