Frederick Maurice DeVoe appeared on the census of 21 June 1880 at North Tarrytown, Mount Pleasant Township, Westchester County, New York, in the household of his father.7 He resided in the San Francisco area from the early 1900s to about 1952.4
Frederick Maurice DeVoe appears in a photograph of a fourth-of-July picnic at the Anderson estate on Post Road in White Plains, probably taken around 1918.8
Frank Kenneth DeVoe called him one of his "fishing uncles."9
Frank Kenneth DeVoe said that his Uncle Bill, his Uncle Fred (Frederick Maurice DeVoe), and his father tended to argue together: "Those three together were something, because they could each one find a different side to take."10
Note by the compiler (Howard DeVoe): my father's Uncle Fred was a glassblower who at one time traveled with carnivals and the like. He was in San Francisco at the time of the 1906 earthquake and told me how he walked around the bay all the way to Oakland, an adventure for him. He also worked as a glassblower in Thomas Edison's laboratory. He never married. I visited his home in Buena Park, California in November 1960 where he still made glass canework sailing ships and perfume bottles for sale at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, and nebulizers for a medicine company. His newspaper obituary4 stated that he worked as a glassblower for Edison in the creative years of the inventor, was also a glassblower for Major Edwin Armstrong in the latter's work in the development of radio, and continued to be active in his craft until his last brief illness.
Frederick Maurice DeVoe lived alone at 8331 East Fourth Street, Buena Park, Orange County, California, from about 1952 until his death.4
Frederick Maurice DeVoe died on 19 March 1967 in St. Jude Hospital, Fullerton, California, at age 91.3 The funeral was on 22 March 1967 at Renaker Buena Park Chapel, Buena Park, California, at 7:30 p.m., Rev. Paul E. Babbitt (First Congregational Church of Buena Park) officiating.4,3 He was buried in Westminster District Cemetery, Garden Grove, California.3,4
