The Design of a Scale Model Crane as a Teaching Aid.

The project tackled by Team 5 for the Fall 1997 semester of ENME 414 was to design and build a working scale model of a crane, to be used as a classroom demonstration. The task was commissioned by Dr.William Fourney for use in his future Statics classes. Therefore, the finished design should be a working model which can demonstrate some of the concepts which are emphasized in Statics, such as Force and Moment Equilibrium, Center of Gravity, Moment of Inertia, Mechanical Advantage, etc. In addition, because Statics will be integrated with Mechanics of Materials in the future, the demo should also teach such concepts as Stress and Strain.
