Rivers, Creeks and Ponds; A Summer Project

Week 4 Lesson Plan

Children continue to identify the minnows they are finding. The Audubon field guide series has proven to be useful. To use the field guide it was noticed that you find the picture first and then go to the back for more information. When in doubt, the children used Google and Yahoo Kids to help as a cross reference.

All along the students have helped with the web page. Some have been typing during Writers Workshop.

Week Four

Working on a fishing camp

Monday- We started making furniture for our "fishing camp".The teachers got the idea for it from our reading project to make mouse sized furniture. Instead,we made a mouse size fishing camp to match with our study work. Some Blue Jays are sewing some sleeping bags, pillows ect.The others are cutting, taping or gluing cloth or other materials given by the teachers. -Seo Young

Bus Stop

Tuesday- Today we to the Northwest Branch Stream. We had a lot of fun there. We saw fish and crayfish. We also went to a pond named Adelphi Duck Pond. Four of the kids went far out into the stream and the rocks were so slippery they kept on falling down, they got very wet! At the second part of the stream there were really great rocks to climb on and keep. Some of the kids collected interesting rocks. Some of the kids caught fish. There was also a playground the kids played on for a while before going to the pond. The swings were fun but the slides didn't work very well. There were a lot of cattails at the pond. At the stream there was poison ivy and I found some paw prints. Caitlin thought they might be raccoons prints. The bus was fun but a little bit bumpy. I hope we go there again. -Amelia

Wednesday- today we went to a bicycle museum that originally was for the Green Room but they let us [the blue room] come. After that we went to the pool and then when we come back it was lunch time everyone was STARVING!!! Kaitlyn [me] gave out Hi-chew.-Kaitlyn

Friday- This was a very hot day. We took the bus to the dairy and got ice cream. Mr. Tarter thought this was the perfect field trip.
