Oren Josselyn

Oren Josselyn was born on 6 July 1793 in Pembroke, Massachusetts.1,2,3 He was the son of Charles Josselyn and Lucy Dwelley.

Oren Josselyn married Mary Cushing Mann, daughter of Captain Joshua Mann and Mary Cushing, on 14 February 1816 at Hanover, Massachusetts.1,4,5,6 They lived in 1853 on King Street, Hanover, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.4

According to Barry's 1853 history of Hanover, he has been for many years connected with the foundry, in that part of H[anover]. He was Rep. from 1842--'44; T. Clk. in 1839, and '41; and from '43--'45; and Selectman in 1832, '33, '39, and from 1850--'53.4

The sixth and last child of Oren and Mary, George Russell Josselyn, born 7 June 1834, was killed in the Civil War.7 Carol Kroeger's book gives George's date of death as 7 September 1863.8

Oren Josselyn died on 23 June 1880 in the Wing House, Hanover, Massachusetts, at age 86.9,10 The Josselyn family records give his date of death as 24 June 1880.1 He was buried in Hanover Center Cemetery, Hanover, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.10
