Franklin Morse was born on 16 April 1827 in Roxbury, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of Harford Morse and Lucy Gay.

On 1 March 1849, Franklin Morse was of one of 210 passengers and crew who left Boston on the packet ship Sweden, bound for San Francisco via Cape Horn.3,4,5,6 His sister Harriet's husband Benjamin Henry Burrell sailed on the same ship. The ship arrived in San Francisco on 3 August 1849.

Franklin Morse appeared on the census of 12 August 1850 at Roxbury, Massachusetts, in the household of his mother.7 He was a coppersmith according to this census.7 Perhaps he had returned to Roxbury, but it seems more likely that he was actually still in California.

The census of 9 July 1860 at Township No. 1, Placer County, California, shows a Franklin Morse, miner, born Massachusetts, age 33.8

Franklin Morse died in 1879.9 He was buried on 5 August 1879 in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.9,10,11
