David Oakley was born on 25 March 1720 in the Borough Town of Westchester, New York.1,2 He was the son of Miles Oakley and Sarah Pugsley.

David Oakley married Sarah Hunt, daughter of Moses Hunt and Mary Close, about 1741.3,2,4,5

In 1756 David Oakley was appointed assessor in Mile Square, Yonkers, New York.2,6 He was a judge and seems to have been a leading legal authority.2,6

David Oakley appeared on the census of 1790 with five in his family.2

David Oakley left a will on 24 July 1792 that mentioned wife Sarah; sons David and Moses; daughters Hannah, Sarah, and Rachel; and daughter Susanna, wife of Thomas Farrington.7

David Oakley died on 25 November 1796 in Mile Square, Yonkers, Westchester County, New York, at age 76.6,2,8 He was buried in St. Paul's Cemetery, Eastchester, Westchester County, New York.2,8
