(7 March 1792 - 7 March 1869)
Date this page was last edited=20 Mar 2011
Her name appears as "Marcia" in Horne's Oakley Genealogy and on her gravestone, and as "Mercy" in Jones's Early Westchester Families and in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.1,2,3,4 Marcia Oakley was born on 7 March 1792 in Mile Square, Yonkers, Westchester County, New York.5,2 She was the daughter of Joseph Oakley and Hannah Farrington. Jones gives her birth date as 1795, but this seems to be an error based on an incorrect reading of her age in the 1850 census.2
Marcia Oakley married William Oakley, son of David Oakley and Eunice Oakley, about 1818.1,6 William and Marcia Oakley were second cousins, since they both had Miles and Sarah Oakley as great-grandparents and also Moses and Ann Hunt as great-grandparents. Furthermore, William was the son of second cousins. The children of William and Marcia were descended from all three marriages between three Oakley brothers and three Hunt sisters that took place in the 1740's.
Marcia Oakley appeared on the census of 1 October 1850 at Yonkers, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her husband, where she was shown as Mercy, age 58.3
Marcia Oakley appeared on the census of 29 August 1860 at Mount Pleasant Township, Westchester County, New York, in the household of her son-in-law Isaac Devoe.4
Marcia Oakley died on 7 March 1869 at age 77.5,2 She was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Yonkers, Westchester County, New York.5
