Hello, my name is Agaana Pathmathevan, and I am a freshman in Environmental Science and Technology (ENST), under the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the University of Maryland, College Park. I am in the Science and Global Change Scholars program. The clubs I am a part of include the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA), ENST Restore Club, and the South Indian Cultural Club (SICC). One way I am working towards sustainability is the Green Terp Bucket List Challenge, which is a series of activities that promote awareness about sustainable areas on campus and ways to be involved.
In the rest of my time at UMD, I hope to gain real-world experience in the environmental field through internships and employment. My introductory ENST course has initiated this by presenting different foundations of interest through field trips. So far, our class has visited the Blue Plains wastewater treatment facility, the Chesapeake Bay, the Anacostia River, Sligo Creek, and more. SGC has also introduced me to other organizations, such as the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and the Smithsonian museums. I look forward to being involved in one of these organizations or another organization with a mission of aiding the environment.
