There is much we do not know about Robert. There is no proof that John ever had a son Robert. A Robert T is executor of John's estate. John's two known sons are listed in his brother Robert's will in 1725. The omission of Robert would indicate he was not son of John, except it is plausible that Robert is John's heir and Robert the brother is providing for the children that will not inherit under primogeniture. We are also not certain that this Robert is the Robert that appears on the Mattapony as early as the 1730s. It would make sense that the Robert on the Mattapony is the builder of Blenheim, but the Blenheim histories all have other accounts of its construction. We cannot find the original deed for the Blenheim land. If Robert is John's heir we wonder why he has this land instead of the Mount. Finally, we are not certain that this Robert is the husband of Jane Bankhead. Jane's children are born when Robert has some age on him, which is not, of course, impossible. There is no evidence, however, of the Robert on the Mattapony dying and leaving an estate before the 1790s.
