Petroleum is a relatively newly developed resource in Alaska. Discovered in 1968 at Prudhoe Bay, this site is home for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company which designed, built, and continues to maintain the 800 mile long Trans-Alaskan Pipeline (TAP).
