Learning to Name and Write Formulas:
- Determining the type of compound you are working with.
- Applying the rules for naming or formula writing for that type of compound.
- Practicing until it becomes second nature.
Naming Molecular Compounds
Writing the names for acids requires us to learn a few new rules. We decide which rules to use based on the number of elements in the acid. It's their two elements will head hydro- at the beginning and at the end – ic. If there are three acids will use a different set of rules to write the name. The video below provides a flowchart and practice for naming acids.
The key to success is first realizing that you have an acid. You can tell because acids begin with H. Next you need to determine what type of acids you're dealing with and then use the appropriate roles to write the name.
