ST. MARY'S CITY

by Lisa R.

St. Mary's City was bought from the Yacomico Indians in March of 1634 by the first Marylanders. The Marylanders came to St. Mary's on two ships named the Ark and the Dove.

The indian settlement was already there and provided a great place for housing for the Maryland colonists until they could build their own houses.

Today St. Mary's is a college and a great place to visit for history. St. Mary's is like a living museum. People dress up and show you what life was like back then.
