Hi, my name is Sanjana Gangishetty and I am a Sophomore at the University of Maryland. I am a Computer Science: Data Science major and hope to pursue a career in Bioinformatics. I have chosen to be part of the Science and Global Change Scholars program due to my interest in technology and the climate. There are so many ways we can relate these two unrelated things together and I want to be able to learn more about them. With the advancement of recent technology and scientific discoveries, there is so much we can learn and use this knowledge to help preserve the Earth and minimize global warming. The University of Maryland gives me the chance to do this through the many research opportunities the faculty has. There is constant research going around campus, allowing me to have the opportunity to work with faculty members on topics I am passionate about. The university also lets me expand my interest in other hobbies outside my major. For example, I am currently on the UMD competitive fusion dance team, Dhoom. Through this team, I am able to express my interest in dance and creativity. Overall, University of Maryland and the Science and Global Change program will give me an opportunity to continue doing the things I am interested in while learning new topics at the same time.
