Union Memorial Hospital is the site where I did my clinical rotation. Union Memorial Hospital is a 280 bed hospital named to the nation's Top 100 Heart Hospitals. Union has 5 full time Registered Dietitians on staff and I spent two weeks with each dietitian so that I would have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of patients.
My first project while at Union was to do my first mini case study on a patient that I choose. The patient I chose was someone that I saw when she first come into the hospital and followed her through her course of treatment.
In the fifth week of my clinical rotation I presented my second mini case study on a Crohn's patient.
Children's National Medical Center is an exclusive hospital only for children in the Washington D.C. area. I spent two weeks at Children's National Medical Center as part of my clinical rotation dealing exclusively with childhood nutritional issues. My first week was spent in the general outpatient clinic where children and adolescents were seen in clinic for obesity related issues and failure to thrive. The second week of my rotation I spent with the Renal Dietitian and was able to visit the hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and grand rounds with the nephrology team. During my time at Children's, I presented a case study and made a handout on healthy eating choices when eating out to be used in the outpatient clinic.

The Baltimore VA Medical Center was the site of my two-week second hospital where I had the opportunity to see how dietitians functioned in the governement setting. The VA provides veterans with state of the art medical care and research programs. Baltimore VA Medical Center consists of an acute care hospital and physician offices which provides veterans with a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and primary care services.
The Baltimore VA Medical Center has an electronic charting system that provides the healthcare professional the ability to find all information about the patient in one area. While at the VA, I had the opportunity to learn the electronic charting system and the way the dietitians were able to chart and track their patients.
