Tobacco farming was the money crop of the Maryland Colony. It happed on a farm . When crops were grown and sold, it made a lot of money. In Maryland Prince Georges County was the largest tobacco area in the colony.
In the spring they planted tobacco seed in beds. The tobacco seeds started to grow. They carefully watched for tobacco worms, because they had to removed. About August, the plants got removed because the fields became dry. Tobacco was shipped in barrels that were called hog heads. Marbolo, which is located on a branch of the Putauxant River, was the center of tobacco production.
