THE MARYLAND STATE FISH

The Maryland state fish is the striped bass, also known as the Rockfish. The Rockfish became the state fish in 1962. The Striped bass is one of the most favorite foods in Maryland. Today people in hotels all over the United States ask for the striped bass for their meal. They say that they are the kings of the Chesapeake! Rockfish do not have many bones in their bodies. Rockfish are an all around type of a fish, because you could go out in the middle of the winter, in the middle of the Chesapeake and catch a Rockfish. When you have hooked a bass, you would know right away because they are very tough, and they fight until they are almost dead.
