Education
My name is Shankar Haridas and I am a sophomore from Gaithersburg, Maryland majoring in International Business and Computer Science in the class of 2025. I graduated from Poolesville High School as a part of the Science, Math, and Computer Science magnet program in 2021.
Work Experience
I am currently a research intern at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the Physical Measurement Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph Robertson. I have been working at NIST since June 2020 and have done work designing DNA origami structures, programming in Python, and CAD design and 3D printing. I am also a General Support and Sales (GSS) Technician in the Terrapin Technology store in McKeldin Library on the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
Volunteer Experience
My volunteer experience includes working as a hospital volunteer at Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Maryland. Here I responded to patient calls and assisted with meal delivery to patient rooms, restocking hospital supplies, and cleaning the facility. Additionally, I worked as a volunteer at CHI Centers, Inc. in Silver Spring Maryland. During my time at CHI Centers, I worked with two other PHS students to develop assistive technology for a Safeway store courtesy clerk with special needs and created a handheld device to help him prioritize job duties.
