I am a bioengineer looking to apply prinniciples of chemistry, physics, and engineering to solve biological problems on a molecular level.
I am an intern at the University of Maryland Department of Veterinary Medicine in the Lab of Bacterial Genetics and Biochemistry, under Dr. Seth Dickey. I study an antimicrobial peptide's ability to kill Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. I engineer the plasmid that codes the antimicrobial peptide, study the protein's physical characteristics, and its mechanism of action. I achieve this using techniques like chromotagrophy, electron microscopy, circular dichroism, and DNA sequencing.
