1) Minimize the Explorer Window and click on the My Computer icon on your
desk top
Click on View and then Options in the My Computer Window.
Click on the File Types tab in the Options Window
Click on New Type and then specify (see picture below):
Description: neuron file
Extension: nrn
Content type (MIME): application/neuron
then click on New Action. and insert
Action: open
Application....: c:\nrn\bin\mos2nrn.exe
2) Then close all the dialog boxes,
3) Explorer
should the automatically download and run a simulation automatically from the highlighted
“load” on the Chapter 1 page. However, depending on the version, it sometimes seems
to have a problem with transferring the name of the downloaded file to
Mos2nrn.exe - the DOS file that unzips the simulation. It comes up with a
"usage:" error message when I try to open the program from Explorer.
So..... then you have to first download and save the simulation to a directory
on your hard drive and then run it from Windows 95.
Here's how to do this.
Download and save the simulation: - after you click on the simulation link, Explorer will bring up a dialog box that asks you what you want to do with the file. Save it to c:\download and make a note of the name of the saved simulation file.
Use My Computer to find the c:\download directory and double click on the icon for the saved simulation file. Mos2nrn.exe should now open the file and run the simulation. Good luck!
