Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Luz Maria Villanueva and I am a third year at the University of Maryland. I am also a commuter at UMD and currently living with my family. I am part of the Science and Global Change Scholars program. As, a biochemistry major my goal is to become a medical researcher to aid in solutions to the numerous of diseases in the human population. I hope to gain a Ph.D. in the future. I have done previous research as an intern at the United States Department of Agriculture on honey bee virus and its parasite; the Varroa destructor. At this internship, I learned a lot about investigations and analyzing different types of data. I also learned different laboratory techniques, such as RNA extraction. I am now currently working at two labs here at UMD, the Wilkinson labs with Stalk-eyed flies and at the Hambry lab with aphis and lady beetles. I would like to do research and I hope I will be able to obtain some experiences and practice for symposium.
