Graduation picture from 31 May 2023, good times

Hey, my name is Kenny and I'm a sophomore at Maryland studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Sustainability. My hometown is Sparks, MD where I've grown up rurally in the Hereford Zone. I'm a first-generation college student in my family, going to school as a Salvadoran student. In Sparks, I've grown up enjoying the activities and resources that the Prettyboy Reservoir brought me. Activities like running, hiking, fishing, and more were a big part of upbringing. With love for the Prettyboy, I would always volunteer with the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, planning and carrying out activities like planting trees, managing invasive species, clearing trails, and more. Because of this upbringing in nature, I've thought it would be appropriate to join the Science and Global Change program at Maryland, along with chasing after a minor in Sustainability.

Goals

As a Mechanical Engineering and Sustainability student, my goals are still coming to shape trying to combine my two interests in environmentalism and hands-on projects. I hope to get an internship in building design that allows me to learn how to design energy-efficient and sustainably-built buildings that are built with Earth-conscious techniques and materials. I also hope to engage in research that allows me to make renewable energy sources more efficient and safe in order to lower manufacturing costs, maintenance costs, and energy costs. In the future, I hope to get a job as a Renewable Energy Consultant in charge of advising, planning, and designing efficient set ups for solar farms, wind farms, dams, and more.
