I am Katerina Banovic, a student current enrolled at the University of Maryland. I'm a Public Health Science major and minoring in Data Science! I am in the Science and Global Change program from Frederick County, Maryland.

I am particularly interested in exploring how changing climates influence the spread of diseases as vectors have to adapt to new environments. In my senior year of high school, I worked on a research project discussing how temperature and rainfall affect the spread of Human African Trypanosomiasis. After presenting this to multiple scientists from organizations like NASA and NOAA, I received praise for my thoroughness of the research I conducted. I have found a passion for researching diseases that disproportionately affect lower-income communities because they typically lack the funding needed for proper research.

In my college career so far, I have been an active member of the UMD community as a Resident Advisor and a peer mentor for the Science and Global Change program. I has also begun my own research into the vector distribution of Visceral Leishmaniasis and aim to be a published author by the end of my Junior year.
