Divers Clayton was born about 1833 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England.1 He was the son of Abraham Clayton.

Diver's family had a painting business in Leeds, but came originally from Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Divers was described as a master house painter (journeyman).

Divers Clayton married Sophia Catherine Troup, daughter of Robert Troup and Jane Robertson, on 5 July 1873 at Leeds Parish Church, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.2

Divers Clayton appeared on the census of 1881 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England, where he is described as a house painter.1

Divers Clayton died on 14 July 1910 at 31 Jubilee Road, Woodhouse, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; cause of death: senile decay.3
