John Jacob Mayer was born about 1796 in Baden, Germany.1 The census of 2 Sep 1850 gives his age as 53; the census of 14 Jul 1860 gives it as 62; and the census of 6 July 1870 gives it as 72; if these ages are correct, he was born between 15 Jul and 2 Sep, 1797.2,3 A note written by his daughter Mary Christena says he was "Born in Baden - Wine Garden on Rhine" -- perhaps she meant the town of Weingarten in Baden, near Karlsruhe.1

John Jacob Mayer married first ____ ____ before 1832 in Germany.

John Jacob Mayer and ____ ____ came to America in June 1832. The month is known from the fact that their son John Jacob Mayer was born 11 June 1832 during the voyage.4

John Jacob Mayer appeared on the census of 2 September 1850 at Mill Creek precinct, Clark County, Illinois, where his surname was recorded as Myers.2 He was a farmer according to the September 1850 census.

John Jacob Mayer married secondly Christina Wegenast, daughter of Christian Wegenast and Christina Bernhard, on 2 August 1857 in Paris, Illinois.5,1

John Jacob Mayer appeared on the census of 14 July 1860 at Dolson Township, Clark County, Illinois, where his surname was recorded as John J. Myer. In his household, in addition to his wife and four children, the 1860 census records Elizabeth, 12, born in Germany.3 He was a shoemaker according to the 1860 census.3 He married thirdly Louisa ____ after 1865.

John Jacob Mayer appeared on the census of 6 July 1870 at Dolson Township, Clark County, Illinois, where his name was recorded as John J. Myers. According to the 1870 census, his household induded Louisa, age 66 (third wife?); Agnes[?], 15, born in Illinois; and Michael, 13, born in Illinois.6 He was a farmer according to the 1870 census.6

John Jacob Mayer died on 18 October 1877.4,1
