Agnes Troup was born on 22 December 1851 in Skelton, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Robert Troup and Jane Robertson. Agnes Troup was baptized on 30 January 1852 in Skelton Old Church, Skelton, Yorkshire, England.
Agnes Troup appeared on the census of 1861 at Skelton, Yorkshire, England, in the household of her father.1 When her sister-in-law Jane (Black) Troup died in 1873, leaving her brother John with George (almost 6 years old) and Mary Ann (9 months old), Agnes moved into John's house to help him raise the two children. She was a substitute mother figure and was much loved by the children all her life.
Agnes Troup appeared on the census of 1881 at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England, as a housekeeper in the household of her brother John Bruce Troup.2 She was courted by James Tiplady who had come to Middlesbrough to work in the rapidly expanding iron and steel industry. Tradition has it that they deferred marriage until the children were independent.
Agnes Troup married James Tiplady in 1889. Agnes Troup and James Tiplady lived in 167 Victoria Road, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. Agnes Troup died of bronchitis on 15 February 1919 at 11 North Terrace, Skelton, Yorkshire, England, at age 67.3 She was buried in Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.3
