Arthur Alexander Troup was born on 20 July 1840 in Glencross, Midlothian, Scotland. He was the son of Robert Troup and Jane Robertson. Arthur Alexander Troup was baptized on 18 August 1840.

Arthur Alexander Troup appeared on the census of 1851 at Skelton, Yorkshire, England, in the household of his father.2

Arthur Alexander Troup married Isabella Wilkinson, daughter of Thomas Wilkinson, on 13 August 1868 at Parish Church of St. Michael's, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, County Durham, England.3 A groom at Ashburn House, Sunderland; he and Isabella lived in the lodge at the gate.3 Arthur Alexander Troup was In the 1879 Kelly's Directory there appears "Arthur Alexander Troup, Shopkeeper, No. 1 Elswick Street" (Gateshead?) Most of his subsequent employment was at Alhusen's Chemical Works as an engine driver.

Arthur Alexander Troup appeared on the census of 1881 at Gateshead, County Durham, England, where he is described as an engine man (Driver 22.)4 He was an engineman in 1892.5

Arthur Alexander Troup died on 17 November 1913 in 32 Shipcote Terrace, Gateshead, County Durham, England, at age 73.6
