The name is invariably found as J. Edward Cox; however, a secretary at Kensico Cemetery (25 April 2004) found "James" in the records. James Edward Cox was born in 1855.1 He was the son of ____ Cox.
James Edward Cox was a shoe retailer in Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York, beginning about 1873.2 He must have been quite successful, judging from the fact that his widow was able to afford a mausoleum in Kensico Cemetery.1
James Edward Cox married Amelia Burnett, daughter of Durrant Burnett and Mary Charlotte Smith, on 1 September 1880 at Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York. They were married by by the Rev. W. E. Ketcham, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, New Castle. It is interesting to see from the newspaper clipping that after the honeymoon, they were going to Sea Cliff, Long Island, where Charles Robert Troup was probably living.3,4
James Edward Cox died on 9 February 1910 in Manchester Terrace, Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York.2 The funeral was on 12 February 1910 at his home.2 He was buried on 1 June 1911 in the Cox Mausoleum, Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester County, New York.5,1,6
