Durrant Burnett

The name "Durrant" evidently came from his mother's surname; it is sometimes found written as "Durant." Durrant Burnett was born on 4 January 1818 in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, England.1,2 He was the son of William Burnett and Rachel Durrant.
Durrant Burnett arrived in New York, New York, on 30 August 1834 on the ship Saint John from Liverpool together with his father and five siblings.3
Durrant Burnett was a plumber in New York, New York.2
Durrant Burnett married Mary Ann Fisher on 5 March 1840.1 Durrant and Mary Ann had a daughter who was Mrs. Royal Monroe of Canada in 1892;2 it's unknown which daughter this was.
Durrant Burnett married Mary Charlotte Smith on 27 April 1848; the minister was D. W. Clark, Minister of the Gospel.1,4
Durrant Burnett appeared on the census of 27 October 1860 at Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York, where the value of his real estate was shown as 13,000 and that of his personal estate as 1,000.5 He retired from the plumbing trade in about 1862, and bought a large farm on Cherry Street near Katonah, New York. His obituary described it as "near Mrs. H. E. Anderson's place."2 In his daughter Josephine's obituary it was described as "a farm consisting of what is now [1925] the Todd farm on Cherry Street, the property of the Katonah Development Co. and the fields now covered by the Katonah Lake."6 About 1876 he gave up farming and moved to Mount Kisco, New York, to resume business, which continued until the year of his death.2
Durrant Burnett appeared on the census of 4 June 1880 at Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York, where he was shown as a hardware dealer.7 He lived at the time of his death at South Moger Avenue, Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York.2
Durrant Burnett died on 16 October 1892 at his home in Mount Kisco, Westchester County, New York, at age 74.8,9,2 The funeral was on 19 October 1892 at his late residence.2 He was buried in Buxton Cemetery, Bedford Township, Westchester County, New York.8,9,2,10
