Benjamin Burnett was born on 6 April 1816.1 He was the son of William Burnett and Rachel Durrant.

Benjamin Burnett arrived in New York, New York, on 30 August 1834 on the ship Saint John from Liverpool together with his father and five siblings.2 His occupation was shown as a tailor on the 1834 passenger list.2
