Ralph Jocelyn was born on 13 December 1275 at the manor of Shellow-Bowells, parish of Willingale-Doe, Essex.1 He was the son of Thomas Jocelyn and Alice Liston.1

Ralph Jocelyn was baptized on 17 December 1275 in the parish church of Willingale-Doe.1

Ralph Jocelyn married Maud Sutton, daughter of Sir John Sutton, about 1296.2

He inherited his father's estates when he came of age in 1297.2 He "held court" at Shellow-Bowells in 1298.2,1 On 8 October 1302 he held one and a half knight's fees in Shellow and Sawbridgeworth.1 In 1309 he was a commissioner to collect a tax in Hertfordshire, for the war with Scotland.1

At some point before 1309, Hyde Hall and Shellow Bellows were apparently seized by the Crown for indebtedness, repurchased by Ralph's father-in-law Sir John Sutton, and restored to Ralph and Maud.3

Ralph Jocelyn died about 1314.4
