Josiah Josselyn was born on 21 August 1778 in Pembroke, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of Charles Josselyn and Rebecca Keen.1
According to Carol Kroeger's book, Josiah Josselyn was christened on 31 August 1777 at First Church, Pembroke, Massachusetts, but the date is clearly wrong.3
Josiah Josselyn married Ruth Howland, daughter of Robert Howland and Ruth Crocker, about 1798 at Pembroke, Massachusetts.4,5
In his copy of Barry's Hanover history, Alonzo Josselyn noted that the children of Josiah and Ruth were his cousins.6 Two of these cousins seem to have been at opposite ends of the political spectrum. Josiah and Ruth's fourth child, Lewis (born 1805), was editor of the Bay State Democrat and for two years was Clerk of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.1 Robert (1810-1884), the sixth and last child, was an attorney who became a close friend of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, and became his private secretary in 1861.5
Josiah Josselyn died on 30 April 1864 in Bridgewater, Vermont, at age 85.5
