John De Voe

John De Voe was born in 1756.1,2 He was the son of Frederick De Voe and Jane Doty.1

In the American Revolution he joined the company raised in Lower Yonkers, New York.3

John De Voe married his cousin Rebecca Devoe, daughter of Daniel Devoe and Auley Odell, in 1779.4

In December 1785, John was able to purchase the farm of 136 acres which his father had leased, and which was confiscated from Frederick Philips by the State of New York. On this land he built a new house some 200 yards above the old one; and in 1799 he built an additional stone house as his family had grown quite large.5

John De Voe died on 8 September 1824.4,2 He was buried in Saint Johns Cemetery, Yonkers, Westchester County, New York.2
