La ciudad de Valdivia fue la más afectada, sus campos de cultivo quedaron inundados. El maremoto se produjo porque la desembocadura del río Riñihue quedó tapada por un cerro, que pudo haber destruido la ciudad, y a que el nivel del suelo bajó.
Este inmenso maremoto llegó hasta la Cordillera de los Andes.Hubo miles de muertos y damnificados.
El terremoto alcanzó entre 6 y 10 grados de intensidad en la escala de Mercalli.
On May 22nd, 1960 there was a big earthquake in Valdivia, Concepción and Talcahuano, this was the biggest earthquake in the history that also caused an enormous seismic wave.
The city of Valdivia suffered the worst part of it, the growing fields were left under the water. The seismic sea was due to the closing of the Riñihue river mouth by a hill, that could have destroyed the whole city, and that the level of the soil went down.
The huge seismic wave reached the Andes Mountains.There were thousands of deads and hurt.
The intensity range of this earthquake was between 6 and 10 degrees in the Mercalli Scale.
