The Friction Apparatus must be
able to demonstrate the concepts
of friction, while being affordable,
portable, and user-friendly.

The materials chosen will be
critical to make the assembly
affordable and easy to make.
Simplicity in design would, in turn,
promote portability as well as
affordability. Being user-friendly
would make the design robust and
reliable.

The following concepts
will need to be determined:

• Static Equilibrium
• Relationship between the coefficient of
  friction and the surface finish
• Relationship between the coefficient of
  friction and the surface material
• Independence of coefficient
  of friction and the surface area
• Energy expended by friction

The design will have to be
centered on making sure all
of these concepts can be
evaluated efficiently as
a demonstration.
