Project 4: Completion of a Friction Apparatus to Be Used in Class

Background Information:

The ECSEL program at the University of Maryland is working with instructors teaching ENES 102 Statics to develop several devices and apparatuses to be used in the classroom. One of them is a friction apparatus for demonstrating concepts related to friction. For example, the coefficient of friction is a function of surface condition, not too much with the size of the area in contact. Two student teams have been working on this project without success. They purchased A, B, C, ., but did not complete the project. Now it looks like a mess on the shop floor as components are everywhere and no one takes care of them.

Related Subjects:

The student team should complete this project. There is not too much work left. The key issue is to put everything related to this project in order and make a plan that is workable. Dedicated students are needed for this project. Otherwise, the device will not be completed again by the end of this semester.
