Sensitivity Analysis of Cantilever Beam Using Pro/MECHANICA
A cantilever beam created in Pro/ENGINEER is illustrated in figure 1. The material used here is AL2014_IPS. It is the same as that in the example used for the training session. Therefore, you can retrieve the material information from the material library of Pro/MECHANICA. The original dimension of the beam is 100" x 20" x 6". The load acting on the free end is a uniformly distributed load. Its magnitude is P= 10 lb/inch. This assignment requires
- Determine the maximum deflection of the beam.
- Reduce the deflection of the beam to 80% of the maximum deflection of the beam by increasing the thickness of the beam, and/or increasing the height of the beam, and/or reducing the overhanging length of the beam. The attached table provides the upper and lower limits that can be used.
- Each team should present, at least, three alternative solutions to the reduction of the beam deflection. Select one from the three alternatives as the optimal one and state the reason or reasons for the selection.
We suggest that you use a two-dimensional shell model.
