Statement: As a course for senior students, the instructor assumes that most of you are familiar with engineering graphics. The first homework assignment is prepared for establishing the communication with the students in class.

Reading Assignment: Chapter 1: Computer Aided Design, from page 1-1 to page 1-16.

Problem 1: Two objects are given in the format of three-dimensional drawings. The students are asked to make two-dimensional drawings. As a minimum requirement, the top, front, and right-sided views are required. You are not asked to use computer software tools. Using a pencil and a ruler would be sufficient to complete this assignment. It is recommended that you pay attention to:

1. Three types of lines: visible lines for the boundaries of projection, hidden lines for features that cannot be seen, and centerlines for characterizing symmetry. Thickness of a line should be used to distinguish the type of line from the other types of line.
2. Dimensions, tolerances and notes: engineering drawings serve as the language of communication in engineering for information delivery and exchange. For an accurate representation, dimensions, tolerances and notes are needed.
