ENME 414 - Spring 1998

Homework #2 - Teamwork

Due Date: Monday, February 16

1. Before February 23, you are asked to complete Examples 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4, 4-5, 4-6 and 4-7. We do not ask you to hand in what you have done. However, the coming examination, which is on an individual basis, will demonstrate the skills of using Pro/ENGINEER you have gained.

2. Design a new steering wheel using Pro/ENGINEER.

Description: The main function of a steering wheel is to steer the car. We assume that you have some experience about a good design or a bad design of a steering wheel. A good design means that it is comfortable, light-weight, and attractive in appearance. A bad design may be bulky and hard to control.

This assignment assumes that an auto manufacturer is designing a new car. From the main design, two prototypes are being built. One prototype will be of the general production model, and the other of a limited production race car. As design engineers, it is the task of your team to design a separate steering wheel for each car using Pro/ENGINEER, and to produce engineering drawings of both designs. General dimensions of the new steering wheels should be comparable to those of existing designs. Students are encouraged to be creative.

The purpose of this assignment is to allow the students to utilize teamwork in completing a simple design problem.
