HW9 Integration of CAD and FEM

Due: 9 am, Wednesday, May 7, 1997


1. You are given a beam. Its geometry is shown below.


Unit: inch


The beam is fixed at one end, as indicated as the shadow area. A force of 10000 pounds is acting on the free end of the beam (normal to the top surface). All the dimensions are in inch.

2. You are asked to determine the displacement and stress distribution of the beam by using Pro/Mesh and ANSYS.

3. This assignment calls for team work. A team is divided into three groups of two people each. Each group should use one of the three types of mesh ( Triangular, Quadrangular and Tetrahedral elements) to solve this problem Each group is allowed to print a color slide showing the result of the beam displacement and stress distributions.

4. Prepare a team report consisting of the results obtained by the three groups.
