ENME 414 Computer Aided Design
Homework Assignment 4 - Integration of CAD and CAM
Due 9:30 am, Tuesday, September 30, 1996

Statement: In design, the CAD system provides the ultimate tool for the designer to
geometrically conceptualize, analyze, and optimize the design. As in the design process,
the CAD/CAM system assists the engineer in all aspects of manufacturing. One of the
biggest advantages of this technology is the CAD's provision of the database of the part to
be produced, eliminating blueprints and manual data transfer. The process engineer can
graphically test the machining process by simulating it on the screeen and interactively
modifying it to obtain the optimum process plan. With computers and computer graphics,
we can go from the initial design step to making a product using one integrated systrem.
The integrity of design and manufacturing is achieved through access to the common
database.

Assignments: First to further familiar with CADKEY and then to generate NC program
using CADKEY.

1. Create the front and sectional view of the part shown below using CADKEY. In
addition the rendered isometric image must also be created. Make use of the
software's features to limit the amount of work you need to perform.

2. Create the slotted positioning plate shown using CADKEY. The cross section
will be given a depth of 1 inch. Once again use the software's features to limit
your work. Use this CAD file to generate a NC program to allow you to machine
it on a CNC machining center.
