Hi! I'm a freshman in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, majoring in ENST and with a minor in Entomology. I'm particularly interested in systematics, ecology, and phylogenetics of true flies (Diptera). For the last four years, I've volunteered as a curatorial assistant in the Diptera collection of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, where I work on my own research. I'm also fascinated by biological control and invasive species studies.
- Some current projects:
- Identification and Comparative Morphology of Fly Pupae (Insecta: Diptera)
- Taxonomic revision of Leptopeza Macquart (Diptera: Hybotidae: Ocydromiinae), with four new species from North America
- Key to Tachytrechus Haliday (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) of America, North of Mexico
- And more...
- Recent publications:
- Dankowicz, Z. R. and C. H. Scholtens (2024). A new species of Toxomerus Macquart (Diptera: Syrphidae) from Hispaniola. Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 126(2): 149-160. DOI
