I had many memorable interactions with Feynman, but perhaps the experiences which were most meaningful to me personally occurred as a result of a letter I wrote to Feynman as a teenager about the compatibility of quantum mechanics and general relativity. I asked how quantum mechanics, which is intrinsically non-local, could be compatible with the equivalence principle, which is intrinsically local. As a result of this letter Feynman came to visit me at my home in Beverly Hills ( he may have also been interested in meeting my mother). He then invited me to have lunch at the Athenium at Cal Tech, where he introduced me to some of the faculty. I didn’t see him again until I became a graduate student at Cal Tech and a teaching assistant for the “Feynman Lectures”. We talked often during the time I was a graduate student about a wide variety of subjects, and needless to say I was always astonished at what he had to say.
