My name is Vincent Trang, a student currently enrolled at the University of Maryland. I am a math major in the Science and Global Change program from Loudoun County, Virginia.
The world is changing very quickly for multiple reasons, including climate change and the development of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence. These changes mean that in many cases, simply having lots of experience will not be sufficient, and a deeper understanding of how the world works will be required. To understand complex systems that change quickly, without an established theory to go off of, it requires a more theoretical approach to unpacking each component of the system, which requires a flavor of math not commonly taught in schools. I teach competition-level math as an instructor for the LIVE math program by Po-Shen Loh, and this is one of the main ways in which my work is impactful.
